As Australia’s Home of Performing Arts, we have a commitment to providing true triple-threat training to our students. So, Act Lab was born; a dynamic program designed for young people with a passion for acting.
Managed and devised by Patrick Klavins, Head of Acting, Brent Street’s Act Lab is devised and taught by qualified acting teachers and tutors who are professionals in the industry. The Act program teaches skills and techniques for both stage and screen acting, with options for recreational classes or our intensive stream for students passionate about extending their skills to a pre-professional level.
Patrick Klavins is our Head of Acting. As a voice and acting teacher, his approach is steeped in Stanislavski and influenced by leading practitioners Cicely Berry, Sanford Meisner, Patsy Rodenburg, Declan Donnellan, and Barbara Houseman. As an educator, Patrick has a profound dedication and passion for performing arts education in Australia. His specialist areas include acting technique, text analysis, Shakespearean verse, scene study, and audition technique. Patrick considers it a great privilege to be supporting students as they strive for excellence in the performing arts.
Brent Street is a fun and safe environment for young people to learn and develop as they explore the craft of acting. Supported by an unmatched faculty of real actors and directors, students are motivated and encouraged to ‘let go.’
Regardless of age and experience our aim for each Act Lab student is to;
- Develop empathy, curiosity and passion for the craft
- Create a life-long appreciation of text, films and theatre
- Communicate confidently
- Learn skills that are applicable to school and future employment be it on the stage or in the workplace
