Brent Street’s Petite program has been designed with a creative and imaginative approach to learning, catering to the unique developmental stages of a dancer between the ages of 3-6 years.
The Petites Program nurtures each child’s abilities, creative expression, coordination, facilitate social interaction and help them learn to follow instructions while having great fun. Dancers receive a safe, fun and stimulating introduction to dance as they explore a broad range of genres and styles within the popular program.
The Petites Program is divided into four main stages, each of which expands upon the previous stage with further challenges, growth and lots of fun!
The pre-petites program is designed for our youngest dancers, giving them a fun, safe, and stimulating introduction to dance. We incorporate imaginative play as we develop gross motor movement using props that engage each student as we share our love of dance. During the half hour class we work on rhythm, timing, with a basic introduction to dance styles.
STAGE ONE (3-4yrs)
During the Petite Stage One class, our dancers are introduced to the basic styles of dance. This class is stimulating as they build and develop their gross motor co-ordination, creativity and confidence through active exercises. They learn rhythm and timing in an introduction to jazz and ballet, hip hop style, fun and funky movement.
STAGE TWO (4-5yrs)
Once a Petite student reaches Stage Two, they have a variety of classes to choose from. Each class is a 45 minute lesson where the dancers are able to engage and focus on that particular style. Styles include Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Acro and Musical Theatre. Each class is specifically designed for the age group to reap the benefits of the particular class.
STAGE THREE (5-6yrs)
Stage Three of Petites is further development in their training, preparing them for the next stage of their dance journey at Brent Street. The following year, when they graduate from the Petites Program, they have the option to choose between Brent Street’s Young Performers or Performance Training Program. We recommend that they enrol in at least two classes during this year to establish a solid technique and that one of them be ballet or jazz (if not both). The Stage Three is finely tuned and embodies the fun and love of dance with a strong foundation for our dancers.
Along with exciting annual performances and concerts, students graduate into Brent Street’s PTP or YP streams, with their very own graduation event.
